Balaur Revisited

This is Balaur, a little fat dragon I have used in a few pieces. I love him! I think of him as being somewhat like a bumblebee, un-aerodynaic but he manages somehow. My latest challenge to myself has been to sew a Balaur. It has taken some time and I thought about simplyifying him but he turned out great, I am so happy with it! He is by far the most complex sewing project I have completed to date. It is so awesome to see one of my little creatures in a 3D format! 

Forward

 This particular jellyfish consists of a painted head and background, with crocheted tentacles propelling him forward. My Mum is able to crochet, I however can only get as far as crocheting a very long, thin chain. while perfect for jellyfish legs, it is not going to allow me to make a blanket or other beautiful things!

If - Prepare

Happy New Year to all! Over Christmas and New Year I have a tendency to be busy and lazy, the points when I am not running around madly are the points when I am taking the opportunity to do nothing at all, so I have not updated this in quite some time.

I don't make New Years resolutions for a simple reason - I don't tend to keep them! Then I get annoyed with myself for now keeping them, but if I did make resolutions I would plan to be more regular and detailed in updating here, at least weekly would be the ideal, especially with Illustration Friday to help me out. I have so much going on in other areas of my life, I often feel guilty drawing or creating when I have other things to do. I'm sure other people feel the same, though I have my doubts people worry about essays or papers due in a month!

In preparation to greet the New Year I must organise the direction I want to follow in my life. Today marks the first anniversary of my grandmothers passing and I miss her very much. She was always encouraging of me and my artwork so this is dedicated to her. She encouraged me to do something with art and she was a big reason to start this blog. The original version of this illustration is drawn in pencil and folds out of my sketchbook, it is a compass - a useful tool to prepare for a journey.

I think this is quite a sad sounding word, the peas are therefore sad at Bob's separation from them...

If - Silent

This is one of my few illustrations where my creatures are not saying anything. Dugongs have always struck me as being very calm and quiet (though if there are any experts out there and I am wrong do let me know!) They are such sweet creatures that it's truly a shame that they are a vulnerable species.
